Some Frequently Asked Questions...
What is STARFLEX?
It is a water-based adhesive whose essential ingredient is Collagen, a
natural polymer. STARFLEX is supplied in a semi-solid state; when heated to
140° -150°F (60°-65°C) it becomes liquid and sticky. When applied to the
surfaces to be bonded, it cools and adheres. STARFLEX formulas are available
in a wide range of film flexibilities, setting times, colors, aromas, and
viscosities.
Why is it called "Cake Glue"?
When STARFLEX is manufactured, it is in a liquid state at 150°F (65°C) .
After quality control approval, STARFLEX is then filtered into cake pans and
allowed to solidify before it is scored, wrapped, and packaged to customer
satisfaction.
What is unique about STARFLEX?
STARFLEX is safe to use. It is non-hazardous, non-toxic, and its vapors are
safe. It is recyclable, repulpable, biodegradable and
does not pollute waste disposal areas. Collagen is manufactured from products
which would otherwise require substantial disposal area space.
How is STARFLEX used?
It is melted, preferably in a temperature controlled, jacketed gluepot, or
premelt tank, to 140° to 150° F (60°-65°C). It may be used undiluted or
diluted to your preferred viscosity with clean hot water. It is applied by a
wide range of very sophisticated machines; or it may be applied with bench
type gluers, brushes, or rubber rollers. Generally, hot STARFLEX is applied
to one of the surfaces to be bonded, and the surfaces are joined and
compressed. The adhesive film cools and the bond forms.
What is STARFLEX used for?
Generally it will bond surfaces which are water sensitive, such as paper,
board, cloth, foam, backed fabrics/vinyl, etc. Special STARFLEX formulas are
available to bond some difficult to stick surfaces.
